Astrology as a Language of Meaning

I felt a strange and immediate attraction to astrology long before I had the words to explain it. As a child, I came across a book my aunt had left at our house for my mother to read. It was thicker than any book I had ever seen—and I was already an avid reader. Passed on from generation to generation, it felt almost ceremonial in its presence.

The book was Love Signs by Linda Goodman.

Each chapter offered deep insight into every zodiac sign, not as abstract traits, but as living personalities expressed through love, work, conflict, devotion, and the many roles people inhabit. It was the first time I encountered astrology as something psychological, intimate, and profoundly human.

In a time when astrology books were rare—especially throughout the 70s to 90s—that single book became my constant reference. With only a handful of texts available to me, Love Signs became my astrological bible growing up. Even today, I still recommend it to my students. Its nuanced understanding of human behavior across the zodiac remains one of my most valuable tools whenever I begin reading a chart.

Long before technique or calculation, astrology taught me how to understand people.

It taught me to listen beneath words. To recognize patterns of longing, defense, ambition, and devotion. To see how two people could experience the same moment entirely differently, and both be telling the truth.

As I grew older and eventually studied astrology formally, I noticed something curious. Many students rushed toward prediction—toward dates, outcomes, guarantees. But my relationship with astrology had already been shaped by something deeper.

I wasn’t interested in telling people what would happen.

I was interested in understanding why they were who they were.

I wanted my readings to solve problems and offer wisdom and guidance so my clients could live with more ease and learn to meet life's challenges with a deeper understanding.

I wanted this for them because it was the gift that astrology has given me—my life today would not be as beautiful and as peaceful as it is now, if not for astrology's guidance.

This is why when I read charts for people, I am driven by a strong desire to show them how the proper use of astrology can change their lives.

My early exposure to astrology as a language of human behavior stayed with me. It influences the way I approached every chart, every consultation, every question brought before me. I learned that before timing can be useful, a person must feel seen. Before advice can land, a soul must feel understood.

Astrology, to me, has never been about labels or fate. It is about context. Compassion. Pattern recognition. And the quiet dignity of recognizing oneself in a larger design.

Even now, decades later, when I open a chart, I approach it the same way I approached that book as a child—with reverence, curiosity, and the understanding that what I am reading is not a system, but a human story asking to be met with care.
